"Vale menos a verdade de um do que a mentira de dois" (Jeremias Cabrita da Silva)


A propósito ou não, eis um curto recorte fílmico de "1984", obra cinematográfica homónima daquela literária, de George Orwell. Excerto no qual Winston, no quarto do velho Charrington, reproduz interiormente as palavras ilícitas e reveladoras do "Livro" de Goldstein:

The war is not meant to be won; it is meant to be continuous. The essencial act of modern warfare is the destruction of the produce of human labour. A hierarchical society is only possible on the basis of poverty and ignorance. In principle, the war effort is planned to keep society on the brink of starvation. The war is waged by the ruling group against its own subjects. Its object is not victory over Eurasia or Eastasia, but to keep the very structure of society intact.

Julia acorda suavemente, olha para Winston, trocam poucas palavras. Entre ambos, uma atmosfera apaziguadora de felicidade e liberdade, coisa para eles até então desconhecida. Winston, ainda pensando no que lia, diz a Julia:

(...) To be in a minority of one doesn´t make you mad.
